BLOXWICH GOLF CLUB

A few subtle course changes and a course re-route completed in 2010 provided the catalyst towards a major change in fortunes for Bloxwich, always popular with its members but now also welcoming visitors and groups in ever increasing numbers.

The mature parkland layout is set in attractive wooded surroundings, regular water hazards and well placed bunkering dismiss the comparative lack of length as no guarantee of an easy time.

The course is far more tranquil and peaceful in nature than would appear possible on arrival, back into the heart of the rural Staffs countryside without even the merest hint of the neighbouring urban sprawl.

The 15th is a highlight, set in a secluded tree lined corner with a raised upturned saucer of a green. Miss it and the little surrounding pot bunkers dotted about are there to penalise any less than spot on club selection. The putting surface here is typical Bloxwich, subtle sloping, quick and a threat if you end up on the wrong side of the pin.

Yet it’s the par 4’s that will determine your scoring fortunes in all likelihood, a real mixed bag, some play pretty tough, others will genuinely give you the chance to score. A hint of risk and reward too, the prime example, is the 5th hole, just 279yds but have need to thread the ball expertly between the two fairway flanking ponds to gain an advantage.

Another reason for the growing popularity of Bloxwich can be attributed the Front of House team, providing first class service and a warm welcome, also the Green keeping team, a course that is always presented in fine condition with good all year round playability.
